History of development and uses of leather. What is leather and how is it made? Common terms in leatherwork. Investigation into various methods of working leather and how tanning dictates which methods are available. Using a BASIC tool set, students will learn the traditional uses of tools such as bevelers, veiners, shaders and a swivel knife to practice both western, traditional style carving and more modern geometric stamping designs. Finishing techniques are examined as are leather care options for new and old leather.
