DESCRIPTION:History of development and uses of leather. What is leather and
  how is it made? Common terms in leatherwork. Investigation into various m
 ethods of working leather and how tanning dictates which methods are avail
 able. Using a BASIC tool set\, students will learn the traditional uses of
  tools such as bevelers\, veiners\, shaders and a swivel knife to practice
  both western\, traditional style carving and more modern geometric stampi
 ng designs. Finishing techniques are examined as are leather care options 
 for new and old leather.
